FAMILY DEVOTION

BIBLE FOCUS

John 1:1, 14

DISCOVERY POINT:

Jesus is God.

KEY VERSE:

“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

(John 1:1)

Jesus is God

THREE IN ONE

Read John 1:1 out loud a few times until you can say it by yourself.

What do you think this verse means?

Well, first of all, “the Word” means Jesus. Read the verse again, substituting “Jesus” for “the Word.” Then do this experiment to help you understand the meaning of the verse.

Have an adult help you to carefully fill a clean, empty plastic bottle about one-third full with hot water. Please an ice cube over the opening of the bottle.

What Happens?

Fog begins to develop. That’s three different forms of water—fog, ice, and water—but they’re all still water. It’s sort of the same with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. All three are God, but each is a distinct person.

Now read John 1:1 again, and then read John 1:14.

GO DEEPER
Write the verses in your own words:

FAMILY CHALLENGE:

As you eat a meal together this week, talk about what it means to you that Jesus is God. How does it make you feel? How can you worship Jesus as a family because he is God?

The Cheerful Giver

He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.
