FAMILY DEVOTION

BIBLE FOCUS

Genesis 3

DISCOVERY POINT:

Sin is anything that doesn’t please God.

KEY VERSE:

“Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law…”

(1 John 3:4a)

Sin Is Anything That Doesn’t Please God

HIDE AND SHEEP

Read Isaiah 53:6 together as a family.

Answer this question:

What’s an example of a path that’s different from God’s path?

Play this fun game of Hide and Sheep:

Have one family member, the sheep, hide somewhere in your house (or outside if the weather is nice). The rest of the family counts to 60 (no peeking!) and goes to find the sheep. The sheep will help the family find him or her by baaing. Play until everyone has a chance to be the sheep!

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS:

How is sinning like being lost?

What’s it like to be found again when you’re lost?

How does Jesus help us when we get lost on the wrong path?

FAMILY CHALLENGE:

Pray together as a family once each day this week. In your prayer time, ask Jesus to help you stay on God’s path by not sinning.

We break God’s law when we sin—and then we’re lost. But Jesus forgives us, and that’s just like being found again. Jesus helps us get back on God’s path!

The Cheerful Giver

He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.
